DESCRIPTION: Traditionally placed at garden paths or quiet thresholds, the sekimori-ishi serves as a silent gesture—a polite way to suggest, “please do not proceed,” without the need for words.

This piece features a naturally rounded stone found on the shores of Kushimoto in the Kii Peninsula, carefully bound with hand-twisted hemp cord.

Originally used in tea gardens to mark subtle boundaries, it reflects a uniquely Japanese way of communicating intent through presence rather than instruction.

The gentle form of the stone, shaped by the sea, and the humble texture of the hemp evoke a quiet elegance—firm, yet warm.
